Fly zapper is still considered one of the favorite fly control products or devices that will help us kill flies in the house and or outdoor areas. As there are many different fly zappers to choose from in today’s market, some of us may not know how to pick one. In this fly zapper review guide, we want to recommend some of the best fly zappers available. We think they are worth checking and buying.
TYPES OF FLY ZAPPERS MODELS
Fly zapper is an electronic tool or device that you can use to kill pesky flies. It is equipped with electrified wire grids in order to electrocute the flies. When the flying insects touch the wire grids, they will be electrocuted, and the “zap” sound will be heard.
There are many types of fly zappers available on the market to suit your need. Basically, it can be divided into 2 categories. They are:
1. Electric Fly Swatter | Electronic Fly Swatter | Fly Zapper Racket | Fly Zapper Tennis Racket | Hand held Fly Zapper (Rechargeable and Non-Rechargeable)
The first kind is electric fly swatter. This is a fantastic combination between the traditional fly swatter and a fly zapper.
These are often shaped like a tennis racket, meaning that they are really easy to control. What makes them differ from the traditional fly swatter is that they use electricity to kill the fly.
They work by creating a very high voltage that will kill the fly immediately. These need electricity to run, so they will use batteries. To reduce the long term cost of this, there are plenty of products available that have a rechargeable battery pack.
This fly zapper racket requires a little bit effort from you. You need to make the racket touch the fly, so it will function. Sometimes it’s a little bit hard to do so.
Generally, this type is very useful and popular because it’s cheaper, easy to be used, portable, and suitable for small range of your reach.
2. Electric Fly Zapper
The electric fly zapper is like a cage of grounded metal bars or plastic. It is put somewhere in the specific areas that you need them to be free from the fly. It is also equipped with a certain type of light in the center. This light, the ultraviolet, can attract flies. For stronger effects, it often combines with pheromone. This type is expensive, high voltage, stronger, intended to reach wider area.
Any flies who touch the grill are killed instantly. On some models there is a problem where small particles of the insect are spread over a small area surrounding the zapper. However, most modern models are “anti scatter”, ensuring that the air isn’t contaminated.
4 FLY ZAPPERS TO CHOOSE FROM
1. Rechargeable Zap Racket TM
This Rechargeable Hand held Fly Zapper Racket is a fantastic product. It is a well-made and light (only1.6lb) racquet shaped fly swatter. This product has a number of excellent features.
Firstly, it is rechargeable and therefore won’t consume expensive batteries. With batteries being as expensive as they are today, this feature is sure to save you a lot of money in the long term.
Another plus is the quality. From my experience, all of the buttons of the device are well-constructed and sturdy. This is important since it is likely that the fly zapper will receive a lot of wear and tear in normal use.
I am confident that this product will stand up to the abuse and last for years. It is clearly marked with a lightning strike design, which differentiates it from a tennis racket. This is important as we would be concerned that kids might injure themselves.
Pros:
- Rechargeable Battery
- Excellent build quality
- Lightweight Design
- Distinctive and attractive design
Cons:
- The price is higher compared to other electric fly swatter.
2. Charcoal Companion Amazing Bug Zapper
For the low cost device, this Charcoal Companion Amazing bug zapper performs well in most categories. In terms of dealing with the flies, it gets to job done as well as any other fly zapper tennis racket on the market.
It is also very light, weighing in at only 1lb. This light weight allows you to strike exceptionally fast, ensuring that none of the flies escapes you.
Unfortunately it does run on two AA batteries, so the initially cheap price of the product could end up being rather more expensive than some of the more expensive alternatives.
Lastly, the design of the product is poor. It looks very similar to a tennis racket, so there is definitely a safety concern here. The quality is low in comparison to that of the “Rechargeable Zap Racket”. This certainly is a good low end fly zapper, and for the money it will get the job done.
Pros:
- Excellent Price
Cons
- Not Rechargeable
- Poor design/build quality
3. Flowtron BK-80D 80-Watt Electronic Insect Killer
The Flowtron BK-80D is the best bug zapper in all aspects. Besides this Flowtron works very well for mosquitoes, it is also doing well to get rid of flies, moths, gnats and other annoying flying insects in outdoor areas such as backyards, yards, and patio. For increasing its effectiveness, it is suggested using mosquito attractant for mosquitoes or fly sex lure/attractant for flies.
While it’s not as powerful as its larger 120W brother, the 80W BK-80D still performs very well. One zap from this unit is enough to kill any garden pest that it might encounter. It also contains a strong fluorescent light that does a great job of attracting insects from afar.
Another fantastic addition to this product is the mosquito attractant cartridge that comes with it for free. Mosquitoes can carry diseases and cause a lot of annoyance, so the addition of this cartridge is great; in my experience it attracts more mosquitoes when the cartridge was used.
Lastly the product has a great design. As far as bug zappers go, this would be one of the best looking. It would fit in well on any porch, garden or patio area. Its good weatherproof design would help it lasts for years in tough weather conditions.
All of this comes for the reasonable low price, making the product a steal. Overall I was very impressed by this bug zapper if you want to use it to get rid of the mosquitoes and other flying bugs including flies, beetles, moths from your family and pets. It is well worth our money.
Pros
- Great Build Quality
- Very Effective
- Excellent value for money
- Very good design and appearance
Cons
- The cord is too short, so additional extension cord is needed.
4. Flowtron Diplomat Outdoor/Indoor Fly & Insect Control
The Flowtron Diplomat is an effective fly zapper that is great for both outdoor and indoor use. Out of the three fly zappers that are being reviewed in this article, this one is the most powerful with wattage of 120W, which is more than enough power to kill insects of all types.
This product is sturdy and well-built. This is very important since many lesser products can become easily damaged in rough weather conditions. Another great feature of this is that it has an Ultra Violet lure.
Insects often cannot resist a strong source of UV light, so this really is fantastic at luring. Over a short time this can kill a surprisingly large number of insects due to the excellent effectiveness of this lure.
According to the manufacturer, this product has an effective range of around 1200 square feet (indoors). In my personal experience, I found that the range of this was indeed as effective as the manufacturer claimed.
This comes at high price, but if bugs are a serious problem for you, then I couldn’t recommend this product enough.
Pros:
- Extremely effective
- Fantastic build quality
Cons:
- Too expensive for many
- Unattractive, perhaps not suitable for use in a porch or garden.
BEST FLY ZAPPER to USE
All four products are excellent in their own ways, but overall there are two clear winners. The best hand held fly zapper is the “Rechargeable Zap Racket” that can be very useful for both indoor and outdoor. The effectiveness, excellent build quality and long term value for money make this a clear winner. Out of the stationary fly zappers, the “Flowtron BK-80D” is the winner for outdoor usage. While the higher end “Diplomat” is more effective fly zapper for indoor or outdoor use, I think it isn’t worth the extra money.
WHERE IS THE FLY ZAPPERS RESTRICTED?
Any types of fly zappers should not be used in the commercial foods’ areas, such as bars, lounges, restaurants, buffets, or other areas where the foods are prepared, handled, served or are otherwise open because of the possible contamination from the pieces of the dead insects. Some country or state even forbids this electrocuting trap. So, ideally they are restricted to the public areas.
However, because some people think that the fly zappers are very useful in order to get rid of the annoying flies compared to other methods, they install additional barrier protection and put it on the floor to minimize the contamination from the pieces of the dead insects.
Other solutions to get rid of flies in commercial foods preparation areas are using other fly control devices/products such as Fly Trap/Fly Catcher, Fly Paper/Ribbon, Fly Trap Plant and even Fly Screen Doors or Windows.
